Frequently Asked Questions

INK by IDNTY

Is SMP permanent?

S.M.P is a cosmetic tattoo that is permanent; we are implanting organic carbon based pigment into the skin.

Is SMP the same as cosmetic tattooing?

Cosmetic tattoo is different from a regular tattoo.Traditional tattoo uses a much more aggressive (and painful) coil machine to implant pigment. They also use a special tattoo ink that is different from S.M.P. pigment. S.M.P. pigment is safe, organic, and vegan. It does not change color over time. In contrast, tattoo ink is not necessarily vegan or organic and may change color to blue over time.If we put tattoo ink and S.M.P. pigment onto a sheet of paper and let it run, the tattoo ink will have a blue tint, but the S.M.P. pigment will not.

How many sessions will be required for the treatment?

The initial procedure will require up to 4 visits to complete. After that, S.M.P. will require a refresh in approximately 5 to 7 years, depending on their skin, hair, and how much sun exposure they have. Lighter skin and blonde hair will require a touch up sooner than darker skin and dark hair. A client with more sun exposure will require a touch up sooner rather than later because UV rays cause the pigment to fade.

Is Scalp Micropigmentation real hair and does it require surgery?

One of the most common misconceptions about S.M.P. is that it is a surgery of some sort. It is not. This is non-surgical and this means there is little or no scarring and virtually no downtime. Hair transplants usually have downtime of months and require prescriptions for pain.

Will the dots change color or turn blue?

S.M.P. pigment does not turn blue. After time, however, the pigment will fade from its original color to a lighter shade.

Are there side effects?

No. On the first day, clients can expect redness like a mild sunburn, which is just from handling their scalp for hours. This will go away soon, no later than the next day.

What will happen if my hair turns gray?

Over the 5-7 years the pigment will naturally fade, matching any grayness that occurs in that time. The technician may also adjust the color as needed during the touchup. Also the pigment has hues of gray, so no need to worry if your hair starts turning gray.
